ABOUT ME

Thrifting Adventures with Dad

As a child, my dad and I would regularly hit the thrifts to find items for school, extra-curriculars or to just have a grand old time. Those Saturday morning expeditions to the thrift stores were more than just shopping trips - they were bonding experiences that I cherished dearly.

I remember the excitement of rummaging through the racks of clothes, hoping to find a unique gem that spoke to my quirky style. My dad, with his keen eye, would always manage to unearth the most unexpected treasures - a vintage leather jacket, a timeless piece of furniture, or a classic vinyl record that became a new addition to our eclectic collection.

Beyond the material finds, those trips were a window into a world of creativity and resourcefulness. My dad would regale me with stories about upcycling and repurposing items, instilling in me a deep appreciation for sustainability and the value of giving a second life to pre-loved items.

As I grew older, our thrift store jaunts evolved into a lesson in budgeting and smart spending. My dad taught me the art of hunting for quality items at a fraction of the cost, emphasizing that great value doesn't always come with a hefty price tag. These lessons in frugality have stuck with me through the years, shaping my outlook on consumerism and instilling a sense of prudence in my approach to shopping.

Looking back, those outings to the thrifts were about more than just finding affordable goods. They were about bonding, learning, and exploring the endless possibilities that awaited in every dusty corner of the store. The memories of those treasure-hunting escapades with my dad continue to bring a smile to my face, serving as a testament to the enduring impact of simple, yet meaningful, shared experiences.

My perfect day would be to wake up at a reasonable time, have a SOLID breakfast and cup of coffee. Grab a bottle of water, pack my day bag and go thrifting with friends.

Make believing, playing and meeting new people is what I look forward to when I go thrifting. How do you enjoy thrifting?
